Walker Communications is actually a one-person enterprise. Discounting the possibility of multiple personalities, the “we” in this site refers simply to me — Merv Walker — and I’m happy to dispense with it.
I formed Walker Communications in 1986 and, for the first 15 years, offered a full range of print design services: planning, graphic design, writing, typesetting, page layout and print management.
During the early 1990s I also held the position of creative director with a Toronto-based marketing firm that specialized in commercial real estate, and was editor of two business magazines, Ways and ReLocation Toronto.
Since 2000 I have focused on writing and editorial services. The projects highlighted in this website demonstrate the breadth of my writing experience: the range of clients I’ve worked for, subject matter I’ve written about, and media I’ve written for.
These projects may showcase my skills as a wordsmith, but they also demonstrate underlying skills in research and interviewing, working with community and stakeholder groups, and managing projects.
My skills and experience provide the basis for what I like to think of as an "easy professionalism" — friendly, reliable service that requires minimal oversight.

EDITORS' ASSOCIATION OF CANADA • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Through a curious twist of fate, the Editors’ Association of Canada (EAC) is one of my few remaining design clients. I have worked with the EAC since 2004, designing study guides, annual tests and certificates for its professional certification program. I am a strong supporter of certification and am proud of my continuing role on the project team, which relies on a changing cast of volunteer test-setters drawn from the EAC membership.
